Legion of Darkness, True Pagan Black Metal

This one goes out to all labels: sign these guys! Legion Of Darkness (yes, I know the name’s cheesy) play extremely fine, high quality black and their newest promo ‘Meridies’ is even better and more complete than their last effort ‘Cantus’. Their blend of stately, epic metal is still alternated with sensible acoustic melodies and bombastic clean (choir) vocals and subtle folk elements (no, it’s nowhere near the Viking sound). As a finishing touch the production is perfect, enhancing the classical additions of cello, violin and flutes.

This promo is, unfortunately, not intended for the record buying public, because two out of five (long) songs are left out. Therefore this review is mostly aimed at label executives or friends/acquaintances thereof. Go to that website, listen to those songs and sign that band! The metal masses are hungry and waiting for a proper release of this finest Italian export product since buffalo mozzarella!

Alle labels opgelet: dit is jullie kans om een zeer fijne, kwalitatief hoogstaande black metal band aan de haak te slaan. Zo’n twee jaar terug hebben jullie al een kans gemist met de vorige promo ‘Cantus’, maar deze volgende promo ‘Meridies’ is nog beter en bovendien nog completer. Statige, epische black metal wordt nog steeds afgewisseld met gevoelige akoestische melodieën en bombastische cleane (koor)zang en subtiele folkloristische elementen (nee, het is géén Viking metal!). Als klap op de vuurpijl is de productie helemaal super, waar vooral de klassieke toevoegingen van cello, viool en fluiten van profiteren.

Deze promo is, helaas, niet echt bedoeld voor de verkoop (want twee van de vijf lange nummers staan er niet op) maar puur voor het label-shoppen. Vandaar ook het dringende verzoek aan iedereen met de juiste contacten: zoek die site op, luister naar die promo en teken die band. Ook al is Legion Of Darkness dan wel de meest suffe naam denkbaar, de muziek kan uitgroeien tot het fijnste Italiaanse exportproduct sinds de buffelmozzarella.
